Viking number-one Cooper Gilmore, a returning sophomore, shot a 40 on the front nine at La Jolla Country Club, and freshman Isabella Itkin was right behind her, carding a 42, in competition against OLP Tues., Sept. 5.
Maddie Quach, another returning sophomore, and Kiana and Malia Thacker, the reigning "old ladies" of Coach Christie Quinn's squad as seniors--we're speaking figuratively--all shot 53's under cooler, clear skies on the hills in the center of La Jolla.
Before the 4 p.m. tee time, Gilmore answered questions about what has been working for her lately: "I've just been trying to practice more."
Q: And that helps?
"Yeah."
Q: The realities of high school - how are you handling homework and golf?
"Good. I try to not procrastinate."
