Nathan Warford gets the attention, but the youngster doesn't take up the whole dinner conversation, which Tucker Warford says "always has to do with field hockey".
The Viking skills coach, as he was called, recently took the Del Norte High head coaching job. Yet he was dressed in LJHS regalia--at least the Viking cap--as he assisted his wife, head coach Amanda Warford, at tryouts Tues., Aug. 6, at Edwards Stadium.
"He had practice earlier in the day," said Amanda, who looked happy as she continues to plant field hockey deep in the soil of the La Jolla community, "at Del Norte." Now, he was doing his second practice of the day by driving down the I-15 to LJHS for the 3:30 p.m. afternoon practice there.
"We figure he can develop (field hockey) at Del Norte over the next several years," explained Amanda on their strategy.
She is finally enjoying the fruits of their work with Muirlands Middle School students. "This is the first time I've had over 30 girls coming" into high school tryouts who already have playing experience during their Muirlands years. "We have 10 teams" at the middle school level in the area, Amanda added.
