"I can prepare salmon, steak...", Aiden Farrell, a sophomore cornerback/running back, rattled off after a reporter eyed him in his French chef's hat in the line for a temperature check at La Jolla High football practice Friday morning, Aug. 2.
He was asked by the reporter, "Are you in culinary?", which is popular these days on campuses, and replaced the old Home Economics requirement that girls were required to take (in place of shop class for boys) back in the 1970's and 1960's.
Farrell didn't quite get the question, so I had to repeat myself. Then, the sophomore corner began to give his credentials as a chef and cook, saying he wanted to specialize in food preparation in coming years.
A teammate mentioned that Aiden took some special training in the culinary arts.
Farrell played youth football in La Costa Canyon, and now lives in Mira Mesa. That's a long way to drive to the La Jolla High campus to go to class and play football.
He competed for Head Coach Tyler Roach in the SDSU and UCLA 7-on-7 tournaments in July. He played in the regular rotation for cornerbacks during those tourneys.
