At home Wed., March 5--not a warm day, but with no rain--the Vikings were trailing, 1-0, in the bottom of the sixth inning against Olympian starter Andrew Arnce, a righthanded senior.
With one out, second baseman Ryan Kestler reached base. Harper Lane then doubled to drive in Kestler to tie the game, 1-1.
Adam Lafever hit a double that bounced on the warning track in left field, closer to the foul line than centerfield, off the fence. That drove in another runner for a 2-1 lead.
Junior Hank Hansen--coming off having hit a grand slam in the Vikes' previous game Sat., March 2, to beat Escondido in a game moved to Muirlands due to the rainy conditions--had pitched one-run ball the first six innings.
Head coach Gary Frank had pre-planned to bring lefthander Cole Roberts in to pitch in the late innings. Roberts was inserted in the seventh, and La Jolla (now 3-2) made the one-run edge hold up. Hansen got the win, now with a 1-1 record.
