LJ baseball: Game story 3/15

La Jolla was settled in a scoreless duel against Mar Vista lefty Peter Thomas entering the bottom of the second inning Fri., March 15.

With one out, leftfielder Andrew Cho hit a flyball to right, driving in Adam Lefever from third base with a sacrifice fly for the Vikings' first run.

In the bottom of the third, three walks with one out filled the bases. Corey Druse, in the second slot, advanced to third, with Ryan Kestler at second, Declan Kelly on first.

Harper Lane, hitting in the fifth spot and playing right field, singled to right-center, driving in two runs. 3-0, La Jolla. Runners sat at third and first.

With two outs (a strikeout), Lane stole second in the first-and-third situation. Lafever, who had scored the Vikings' initial run the previous inning, had a base knock to score two more, 5-0.

Head coach Gary Franks' squad scored two more runs in the game, giving up four, and held on for a 7-4 win under bright skies, blessed by the time change the Sunday before.
