LJ wrestling: Q&A with Jack Long

By Ed Piper

Jack Long was an individual Eastern League wrestling champion last year as a sophomore. By winning the team league title, the Vikings moved up to a tougher league this season. This conversation took place at weigh-in before the Vikings' tri-dual meet at Scripps Ranch with the Falcons and Patrick Henry.

This is you guys' first league dual. Where are you mentally?

This is the first time I've competed since last year. I'm doing pretty good. I'm hoping I can get at least one win today (facing two opponents).

You had quite a football season. (La Jolla swept the Eastern League 5-0 to win the title and advance to the CIF Division 2 championship game. Long was a key defensive starter.) It must be incredible coming off that. What's that like?

It's pretty awesome. We had a good season. Hopefully, we do even better next year (when Jack will be a senior).
