LJ FB: CO doing/not doing "the jump bump"

Post-TD: Carlton goes airborne, but
Brandon remains on terra firma.

Carlton O'Neal has had a second phenomenal season for the La Jolla High football team. Earlier this season, he set the career record for receptions at the school. All he's doing as the Vikings advance in the playoffs is add to his record. He had four more catches against Santa Fe Christian Nov. 7, including two touchdowns. The long was a 42-yarder from the shotgun arm of Collin Rugg.

So, having recognized this, there was something funny in Friday's win at Torrey Pines High. And it happened not once, but twice.

On each of the senior receiver's touchdowns, he jumped to bump a teammate in celebration in the end zone after the TD--but the other person didn't!

This created a comical scene, in an otherwise-serious CIF playoff contest, in which CO was left hanging in the air, the other person not jumping. The jump bump works when two players coincide their hops into the air. But not, when they don't!

Asked about the missed connections after hitting pay dirt, O'Neal explained via Facebook message, "Brandon (Bonham) kept trying to set up a celebration with me in which we ran up like we were going to jump up then didn't, but I kept forgetting to do it haha."

Earlier, CO was asked if a long bomb from Rugg that he dropped hit him in the helmet, as an observer suggested, Carlton said, "No, it just hit me right in the hands and I took my eyes off of it before I reeled it all the way in." This is rare for the Irishman.
