La Jolla crushed Santa Fe Christian 54-17 in the first round of the CIF Division III football playoffs Nov. 14 at Torrey Pines High.
Quarterback Collin Rugg established a new CIF San Diego Section record for touchdown passes in a season at 45, with next week's game to come. He had six tosses for scores in the lopsided contest, which stood at 35-0 at halftime.
Beneficiaries of his aerials included receivers Carlton O'Neal, Brandon Bonham, and Trenton Fudge--the latter who caught the record-setting TD in the third quarter. Reid Martin had a rushing touchdown.
La Jolla (6-5) will face Christian High in the second round of the playoffs next Friday, Nov. 21.
