The La Jolla boys, behind junior Keegan Durfee, placed second in the CIF Finals team competition for Division IV on a 2.96-mile course laid out at Morley Field in downtown San Diego Sat., Nov. 11.
Durfee received a medal, which he proudly wore around his neck after his race, for finishing second in the boys race with a time of 16:22.8. Christopher Ruff, his fellow junior classmate, ran eighth in 16:50.6.
On the girls' side, the Viking girls dominated, running in the first four places, garnering 18 points far and away ahead of second-place Classical Academy with 73 points. Chiara Dailey, one of the top 18 runners in the U.S., beat 17 minutes, winning by over 80 seconds.
Dailey recorded a time of 16:57.7. Kirra Fisk, in her last local cross country race as a senior, was timed in 18:20.0. Daphne Mayer, another consistent 12th-grader the past four years, ran 19:14.6. In fourth was sophomore Hannah Aalaei in 19:33.3.
While all the attention has been given to Dailey this fall, understandably, Fisk and Mayer have been doubling for four years and are appropriate runners to be recognized for their career-long times and accomplishments. A runner's Hall of Fame would likely include them.
