Nila Ward is the varsity boys water polo head coach for El Segundo High. These comments were made prior to La Jolla's game in the first round of the Southern California Regionals Tues., Nov. 14.

Q: What's your outlook? (Pause.) My dad worked in El Segundo for 27 years, commuting from Camarillo. People are going "El Segundo" (pronounced in Spanish).

Yeah, we were watching (a sports broadcast) and wondered what they were talking about. (chuckling)

Q: What are your strengths?

We had a great season. We've got a well-rounded team.

Q: You won D3 (Division 3 in Southern Section)?

Yeah, we're undefeated.

Q: Who did you beat in the final?

We beat Canyon (Anaheim).15-7, or something like that.

Q: What are your strengths? What do you guys do well?

We do a lot of things well. We've got two big centers. We have a great goalie. We have lots of outside shooters. Our 6-on-5 is really good (when the other team has a kickout). And we have a good defensive mindset. So we have a really well-rounded team.

Q: Do you know anything about La Jolla?

I don't.

Q: Okay, good luck.

Thank you.
