La Jolla scored first, which is not uncommon for the Vikes. Neither team led by more than one goal the entire game. But Coach Amanda Combs Warford's squad came out on the short side of the stick, losing a 5-4 heartbreaker in overtime at Poway in the CIF Open quarterfinals Tues., Nov. 7.
La Jolla was the number five seed. Poway is the number four, thereby hosting the game.
"It was insane. We won every quarter but the last," said Warford.
She had vowed back in August, "We will be in the finals." Her arguably best squad of her seven years at LJHS almost made it, with All-CIF Sienna Gustafson playing her last game.
"Best game we've ever played, though. I'm very proud of them," commented Warford.
