Cooper Gilmore, a sophomore from La Jolla High, finished in the top two-thirds of 121 golfers at the CIF Regionals played at Los Serranos Golf Course in Chino Hills Thurs., Nov. 9.
"She had some unlucky bounces, played solidly, and finished very strong amongst a record-breaking field," said Viking golf coach Christie Quinn, who went to the Regionals.
Cooper tied for 79th place. All 121 girls started at 7:30 a.m. in the morning. Other golfers from the area included Renee Wang from Bishop's; Kailey Yoon from Canyon Crest Academy; Maddy Sayanasongkham from Rancho Bernardo; Lauren Lee from Del Norte; Emilee Canepa from Point Loma; Tyanna Jacot and Zoe Salinas from Torrey Pines; Ellaclair Leedom from Cathedral Catholic; Ines Izuzquiza from Coronado; and many others.
LJHS Athletic Director Aaron Quesnell, who also traveled to Chino Hills for the event, said, "Tough gusting Santa Ana winds out there and tough greens made scoring difficult.
"She was unlucky with a few putts.
"Not a bad score, considering."
