La Jolla's matchup with former "Boy Wonder" Joel Allen (as he started head coaching at a relatively young age) and his fourth Point Loma football team--after 11 sparkling years at the helm of Bishop's--has been moved to Thurs., Oct. 5, due to the shortage of referees (anybody out there want to get trained?).
It should be a fun matchup and a good challenge for Viking coach Tyler Roach and his team, experiencing an ascendancy with a multi-faceted offense, which Tyler loves, and a tough defense under new Viking Defensive Coordinator Ryan Price. You can see these guys are loving it, sitting in their war rooms cooking up new schemes and plotting how they're going to attack each new opponent.
Allen and Roach are similar in that way, having creativity and a plethora of game designs to throw in there. We all get to benefit, by enjoying some well-coached football by our top youth, who at least on the La Jolla side are finding new highs and reaching toward potential they each individually weren't even sure they had.
That's the beauty of high school sports: the growth and development of young student-athletes before our very eyes.
