Purely from a statistical point (you get it? point - Point Loma), La Jolla showed:
1. La Jolla, trailing “The Point” in the third quarter 21-7 Oct. 4, demonstrated an ability to come back in winning 47-29.
2. Some days this season (seven games in), Jackson and Carson Diehl are just playing catch with each other, like they did when they were younger in the backyard, while everybody else is watching.
Jackson Diehl, a senior—and named Homecoming King six days earlier—connected with his younger brother, a sophomore, four times Oct. 4 at Point Loma.
3. QB Jackson is having a phenomenal year. No sense in comparing to previous seasons in La Jolla, but his 325 yards passing, on 17 of 27, with six touchdowns, alone is phenomenal. These are numbers we haven’t seen much in this reporter’s 20-year period here.
The slender, swift QB also rang up 56 yards rushing on 16 attempts.
Some would say the Vikings (2-0 in the Eastern League, 5-2 overall) are performing better at this point than Coach Tyler Roach’s Southern California Regional champs four years ago.
