Jack Wiese and Max Smith rank among Eastern League defenders in tackles--even though league play doesn't begin for the Vikings until Fri., Sept. 28, at Morse.
Stats are kept for players on Eastern League teams. That explains Wiese's standing as third most prolific tackler through La Jolla's first five games, with 36. Smith is seventh with 33. The statistics include non-league and league games.
Finn Rice, another Viking high up in the defensive stat list, is listed 11th with 27 tackles. Aiden Trudeau is 15th with 25.
Evan Brown ranks 18th with 23 tackles. Gabe Solis, Greg Nelson, and Langston Aron come in with 20, 19, and 17 tackles each, respectively.
Younger players are showing the way for Coach Tyler Roach's team: Wiese and Rice are juniors; Smith is a sophomore.
Trudeau leads all Eastern League defenders in sacks, being credited with 4.0. Trudeau is a sophomore.
