Captain Jenna Harmeyer's goal with 39 seconds
left in the match. It wasn't enough.

Jenna Harmeyer scored a goal with 39 seconds left, but it wasn't enough as the La Jolla High field hockey team fell 3-2 to Del Norte in the second round of the CIF Division II playoffs at Muirlands Middle School Nov. 18.
Kelly Collins scored the Vikings' first goal midway through the opening half to knot the score at 1-1. But the attacking Nighthawks controlled the ball and netted two more goals to lead 3-1 at the half. La Jolla played hard, but they often seemed a step slower than Del Norte and were beaten to the ball enough to put them two goals down.
La Jolla finished a brilliant season, though they had hoped to go farther into the playoffs. Trisha Turner was often around the ball, as were Collins and Harmeyer. The Vikings put on a little surge in the second half, but the one goal in the second half didn't suffice.
The advantage to moving their home field onto the Muirlands campus means potentially the Vikings field hockey team won't be as disrupted as other teams once the renovation begins on Edwards Stadium next Spring. The football team faces the entire 2015 fall season on the road. They'll have to find a place to practice, and to play each game. The boys and girls lacrosse teams will be displaced next Spring in the middle of their seasons.
Officials at the school have said they really don't know what they're going to do with P.E. classes during the reconstruction, which will replace the playing surface on the football field, and construct new coaches offices and team locker rooms and visiting stands, as well as a tennis pavilion providing seating shaded from the sun.
