The La Jolla High boys basketball team is adding a new wrinkle to its schedule this year. It will travel to San Clemente on Saturday, Dec. 13, to play in the Orange County-San Diego Showdown. As Dick Howser said, that is a long way to drive a Buick (though he said it about long home runs).
Familiar jaunts are the Game On Sports Tournament in early December to kick off the 2014-15 season, and the Grossmont Invitational the week before Christmas.
A new opponent in my 11 years of covering the team will be Vincent Memorial Catholic High School, which is in Calexico. That will be a long, long drive in a Buick (or other brand). The game is part of the Game On Sports Tournament. The Vikings will drive there Wednesday, Dec. 10, the same week as the San Clemente trip. That will be a week in which the Vikes truly show their mobility--but not on the court, rather to the court. Do you get it?
