LJ FB: 'They're going to get every ounce'

Coach Jason Carter was relieved at La Jolla's win over Kearny after flubbing up in early going. He was light-hearted--the best word is playful, which has already been used in another story--on the field as the lights stayed on, players and their friends and families milled around after the Homecoming game, and chats were carried out.

One thing he said at the tail end of a interview by print and digital media that lasted several minutes stood out: "We have unfinished business. Whoever we play (in the first round of CIF playoffs), they'll get every ounce of the La Jolla High football team."

He was quiet when he said it, but he was ticked.

This comment came after a review of possible playoff opponents: Mount Miguel, Santa Fe Christian (who will be the Vikings' opponent Nov. 14), and others.

Carter was saying this in the context of the sloppy win over Kearny, in which La Jolla allowed a winless team that had only scored one touchdown a game, except in one case, to score not one, not two, but five TD's on the night.

"They don't do what I tell them to do," Carter said, shaking his head and muttering at how lightly his players took Kearny entering the game. The defense gave up a touchdown in less than ninety seconds at the start of the game. Then Kearny repeated that a short time later to go up, 13-7.

His remark communicated that from the start Friday, his players will bring it, instead of being caught unprepared as they were for the lowly Komets.
