Santa Fe Christian's football team, La Jolla's opponent in the Vikings' first-round CIF playoff game in Division III Nov. 15, finished 3-1 in the smaller-school Coastal League this season.

The Eagles, coached by Jon Wallace, had the misfortune of being in the same league as the Vikings' crosstown rival, Bishop's. Bishop's, under Coach Joel Allen, has seen everything jell this year. The Knights dominated the Coastal League with an undefeated4-0 record, including a 35-3 smashing of Santa Fe two weeks ago. Bishop's is 10-0 overall and as a result of their number-one seeding in the Division IV playoffs, the Knights have a bye Nov. 14.

La Jolla dropped a 42-7 decision to the Knights in week two of the season, a non-league grudge match for the newly-initiated Pearl Street trophy.

The only other common opponent the two playoff opponents have faced this season is La Jolla Country Day. Santa Fe Christian defeated the Torreys in a Coast League game a week ago, 41-21. The Vikings opened the season with a 64-19 win at LJCD, arranged because La Jolla coach Jason Carter was offensive coordinator at Country Day before he took over the Viking program.

Until last year, La Jolla played Santa Fe Christian every season as one of the Vikings' pre-league contests. It was an alternating home-and-away arrangement.

The Eagles feature all-purpose back Benton Weeks in their offense. The senior has amassed 936 yards on the ground on 138 carries, with four touchdowns. He has four games of 100 yards rushing. Weeks also has grabbed 14 passes for 206 yards, for a total of 1142 all-purpose yards.
