"I say it's a battle of the juxtaposition of opposites: we run as much as we can, and they pass as much as they can," said Coach Jon Wallace of Santa Fe Christian, whose football team plays La Jolla in the first round of the CIF Division III playoffs Friday, Nov. 14, at Torrey Pines High.
"I think it's going to be a good game," said Wallace. "It was a good game last year when we played them. They have a super potent offense."
Asked if he was preparing his team by concentrating on what it does best, or by focusing on what has to be done against La Jolla, he said, "The offense they run, you definitely have to game-plan against."
"The new man there (at La Jolla) has done a good job," the Santa Fe Christian head coach said.
Benton Weeks, a senior at the private Christian school, plays fullback and has piled up all-purpose yardage on the ground and in the air. "He's a super-smart kid," Wallace said. "He has developed over the last couple of years. His strong suit is his smartness."
Asked why his team, which played La Jolla every year until this year, didn't face the Vikings this season, he answered, "Our contract wasn't renewed. I don't know why."
