LJ wrestling: Sweep of Holtville

In the Vikings' introduction to dual meet action this winter--for many beginning wrestlers, their first dual exposure--La Jolla swept visiting Holtville in the first act of a scheduled two-act evening at Madison High Thurs., Dec. 7. Later in the evening, the Vikes were slated to face Valhalla.

The biggest news of the day was that Head Coach Kellen Delaney and his wife Brenda were new parents. The baby's name is Kirwin Van Delaney, with Mom's maiden name taking center slot. He weighed six pounds, three ounces, and measured 18 1/2 inches.

Dad surely had dreams of a future Vike wrestler. Meanwhile, a sportswriter thought of days on the basketball court, lengthening out the legs for competition in the "city game".

Holtville--the green Vikings (La Jolla is red)--traditionally a wrestling powerhouse, apparently didn't see much need in making the long, two-hour drive from El Centro with some of their better wrestlers. An assembled group of "B" performers tried their best against both Valhalla, in Madison's gym, then later in the team room against La Jolla.
