Forward Tahlia Zadeyan, fresh off her senior volleyball season, scored a goal on a penalty shot 90 seconds into the game, and La Jolla made the lone goal stand up with an effective 1-0 win over Helix in the Butch Lee Tournament at Del  Norte High Tues., Dec. 5.

Tahli, a six-foot attack player, received the penalty shot after a hand ball call against the Highlanders in the box. She plunged her kick into the far right side of the net for the tally.

Minutes later--11 minutes into the shortened 35-minute first half (tourney game halves are five minutes shorter)--Zadeyan, a senior captain, slammed a shot off the right post, narrowly  missing a second goal in a dozen minutes.

Much of the flurry of offensive action occurred around this time, early in the contest. Ruby Davis, the other senior captain, and Daniella Solkhon were also highly active in the Vikings' offensive half of the field, going on runs and trading passes.

Asked before the game the best thing she does for her team, Davis replied, "I score a lot of goals and (dish) to my teammates on offense."
