LJ FB 14, Mira Mesa 7

An observer remarked that La Jolla's 14-7 win at Mira Mesa Fri., Oct. 4, was "boring".

But boring can be good. The game featured no scoring until the second half, but Viking quarterback Jackson Stratton avoided any interceptions while targetting receiver Makai Smith with a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.

Dirk Germon, Jack WieseMax Smith and the La Jolla defense again held their opponents in check. The "Gang of Tackles" (we've got to come up with a better nickname) has not allowed any team more than 18 points this season through six games. That includes Bishop's and Ty Buchner.

Wiese, in fact, went a little crazy, making 12 stops, including two tackles for loss as well as a safety, the sole scoring outside of the fourth quarter.

L.T. Shimp recorded five solo tackles and two assists for seven tackles in total. Germon had seven tackles. So did Max Smith. Grady Mitchell was everywhere the ball was, with seven assists to go with a solo tackle to be credited with eight total tackles in the official statistics by Mike Wykosky.

Max Smith also had 92 yards rushing on 18 carries to pretty much take care of that department for the Vikings.

La Jolla evens up its Eastern League record at 1-1, 3-3 overall.

The Marauders, in a down year, drop to 1-5 for the season.
