Recent La Jolla High graduate and field hockey/soccer standout Nikki Collins gave the Viking boys water polo team a personally-guided tour of the Cal Berkeley campus Saturday afternoon, Sept. 8, in a finale to the team's weekend spent competing in the Menlo Scott Roche Tournament a short distance away.

Collins, a  Second Team All-CIF selection in field hockey last fall, had the eyes and ears of Coach Tom Atwell's players, especially the seniors who will be moving on to life after LJHS in 12 months.

"It's amazing to watch the growth of these kids," observed Atwell, an AP History teacher. "Two years ago this year's seniors that were on the trip could have cared less about the tour we got then and were distracted by any moving object.

"This year, those same boys as seniors were tuned into everything Nikki had to say and had lots of questions."

The water poloists, who won three of four games in winning fifth place in the prestigious Bay Area tournament, previously visited the University of Santa Clara Thursday, after their flight from San Diego, and Stanford University Friday.

"The boys have been awesome this whole trip," said their coach. "I am so proud of them for how they have handled themselves in every way."
