LJ b water polo 10, Torrey Pines 6

By Ed Piper

La Jolla, playing in its home pool, pulled away to an early 4-1 lead on the way to a 10-6 victory over Torrey Pines in the opening round of the America's Finest City Water Polo Tournament, hosted by Coronado High, Friday afternoon, Sept. 21.

Senior Cole Atwell fired in six goals, including the first four by the Vikings. Coach Tom Atwell's team held a 3-1 edge over the Falcons at the end of the first quarter, in front of a good-sized home student crowd. The score was 4-2 at halftime.

Sophomore Rhys Bugelli played "tough elbow defense", according to the coach, and added a pair of goals to help maintain La Jolla's lead after halftime. Fellow sophomore Alex Brown scored goals in the third and fourth quarters.
