La Jolla's boys water polo team spanked host JSerra, 14-5, in the Vikings' season opener on the road in Orange County at the private Catholic school Tues., Sept. 4.
All-CIF and All-American (Second Team) performer Cole Atwell, starting his senior year, dominated scoring for the red and black, with eight goals.
Commented his father: "While that is good, we need to spread the scoring out."
Another positive: "We held them to five goals."
Said the elder Atwell diplomatically about the vanquished foe, "The JSerra team is young and will improve over the next few years."
