LJ b soccer 5, SD Jewish Academy 0

By Ed Piper

As they did last year on their opponents' home pitch, the Vikings swamped San Diego Jewish Academy, 5-0, at Edwards Field Tues., Dec. 5.

La Jolla High assistant coach Victor Zendejas and Manny Diaz, a coach for SDJA, are best friends, growing up together, playing together on the Vikings' varsity soccer team in the 80's, and Diaz serving in Zendejas' wedding.

Calvin Hyytinnen scored La Jolla's initial goal on a header. Soon, Jorge followed with a goal of his own for a 2-0 first-half lead.

In the second half, Teo Frankel netted a ball on an assist from Pablo Jativa. Then striker Luis Goehler, who plans to attend and play for Point Loma Nazarene University next year, scored back-to-back goals: the first on an assist from Frankel, the second on a pass from Adrian Andrade.

In the encounter in Sorrento Valley at the secure campus last year, La Jolla easily moved to a 5-0 halftime lead, on their way to a 7-2 blank sheet.
