LJ b soccer 4, Clairemont 0

By Ed Piper

Late in their match at Clairemont High Mon., Dec. 11, La Jolla's soccer team, holding a 3-0 lead, had one shot opportunity after another to where it almost seemed like a free-for-all in front of the goal.

The host Chieftains were out-manned by the talented Vikings, but they didn't quit. La Jolla added a late goal for a 4-0 final.

"We moved Marco (Furlanis) up right behind the German, Luis (Goehler) at the front of the offense," said LJHS assistant coach Victor Zendejas. "That way, we have more explosiveness."

Goehler, laughing, told a teammate "No" when the person asked him after he had been pulled for a substitute late in the game if he had scored. But he wasn't upset. The team had showed its working parts functioning efficiently, overwhelming their opponents.

Goehler, who is planning to attend Point Loma Nazarene University next year, said of the college, "It's in a beautiful location. It has a good soccer team. And it's close so that my dad (Thomas) can watch me play."
