Trish Turner, a senior center midfielder, said the La Jolla field hockey wanted "to focus on spreading the field and, of course, maintaining possession and connecting with each other to score some goal" in their season opener at Valley Center Wed., Sept. 2.
The Vikings did score one goal in the second half, falling to Valley Center, 2-1. It was a non-league contest.
Talking before the game, Turner, who also plays soccer, said the team would leave for Escondido around 3 p.m. for the 4:45 scheduled start of the game. "We want to get there in plenty of time to be able to get a solid warm-up," she said.
Turner, an offensive player, is one of the team's three captains. The other two captains are defenders, Maya Hildebrand and Karla Quevedo.
