LJ FH: Captain Karla Quevedo

Karla Quevedo, a captain on La Jolla's field hockey team, says team members are building cohesiveness by working together in group activities.

"Coach (Lisa) Griffiths really wants us to get to know each other well, which is why the first thing we did this season was team bonding. We went rock climbing," the defender said.

"We have a mentoring system going where the juniors and seniors have a couple of underclassmen that they work with," said the returning senior. "It's meant to help the younger players really feel like they are part of the program, and that they have someone that they can come and talk to on and off the field."

There have been a lot of roster changes, said Quevedo. "It's definitely different from last year, having lost multiple starters." Returners, besides herself, include fellow captains Trish Turner and Maya Hildebrand, and Annemarie Allen.

"There are a lot of young players on the varsity roster, and I believe that they have a lot to offer to the team," the senior said. The team is working well together for having only been together for a couple of weeks."
