LJ wrestling: First title in 11 years

"Glory days, they'll pass you by

Glory days in the wink of a young girl's eye

Glory days, glory days"

The Vikings' Eastern League title, won with a clean slate in league dual meets, is the La Jolla program's first since the glory days of 2011-2012.

That team, in which present coach Kellen Delaney was involved, sported some pretty special athletes. That was, really, my immersion into Viking wrestling--or any wrestling--for the first time.

A key link was Timmy Cundiff, the son of our friends Gary and Dee Cundiff. (Gary has since passed away.) Timmy wasn't big on school--he was an action guy. He became an EMT after high school and pursued other things.

Harry Wilson, an integral member of that squad, is now an assistant coach at the school. There are many others.
