LJ xc: 'I'm nervous'

By Ed Piper

Katie Frost greeted a reporter near the snack bar during the La Jolla-Bishop's football game Friday night, August 23. "Aren't you the one who goes to track meets?" she inquired.

"Yes. I know your parents (Jenny and John)."

Frost: "We have a cross country meet tomorrow, the Vaquero Stampede. I'm nervous."

Reporter: "Will you be able to get some sleep tonight, even though you're nervous?"

"Yes."

Frost, in the annual event at Lindo Lakes, finished the 1.65-mile course in 11:04 for 17th place among frosh/soph girls. Viking teammate Sarah Swendsen finished in 10:27 for fourth. La Jolla, as a team, placed third with 113 points, narrowly behind Granite Hills (106) and Del Norte (108) in Division 2.

Other Viking finishers were Sasha Backus (11:14, 26th), Natalie Courtney (11:22, 28th), and newcomer Scarlett Slagter (12:08, 52nd).

Those five counted for team points for La Jolla.
