La Jolla's field hockey team traveled a long way to Valley Center to lose its season opener, 2-1, under new Coach Lisa Griffiths Wed., Sept. 2. But junior Camryn Johnson says there is a lot to look forward to this season.
"It was our first game and we are still learning to work together," said the forward. "We have a great group of girls, but we have only been playing together for about 1.5 weeks."
All the scoring came in the second half. Valley Center (now 2-0-1), which had already played two games, had eight corner shots, while La Jolla (0-1) was limited to two.

Johnson, who is 15, added, "I think that as we play together more, we will become a very strong team."
"It should be an interesting season, but I feel like we all play well together and have an overall good vibe as a team," the offensive player said.
The Vikings have multiple freshmen and sophomores, among other new additions to the team.
