Defensive end Andrew Mitchell grades himself a "7" out of 10 for last week's performance in the 52-42 season-opening win at Country Day. He says focus is the key for each player against Bishop's as the La Jolla High football team faces the crosstown rival Knights in Mission Bay's new stadium Fri., Sept. 4, at 5 p.m.
"I feel like our team can win if we just stay focused and do what our assignments are, and play as a team," said the 6'1", 205-pound junior.
"Last week (against the Torreys) was okay," said Mitchell, who was credited with one solo tackle, one assist, and half a sack against LJCD. "We should have scored when on the goal line more, and we definitely shouldn't have let them score that much."
"It's all in knowing our assignments and performing, but a win is a win, so I'm happy."

He said he realized in the opener, "I need to be more conditioned, which we have been doing more in practice." His strength from his position at right end is "pressuring the quarterback, for sure," in his view. "Most plays, if I don't sack the quarterback or tackle the running back, I'm in the backfield in the quarterback's face."
Mitchell, who also puts the shot and throws the discus in track for the Vikings, enjoys playing defense in football. "Defense is just fun," he said. "You get to hit people, which is great, but there's a lot of pressure on the defense sometimes, which makes things a little harder."
