La Jolla's cheerleaders, as well as fans, made a good
use of limited space on the visitors sideline on a warm
evening at Country Day to view Friday's opener.

The La Jolla High cheer squad, having adapted to the narrow visitors sideline at Country Day Fri., Aug. 28, will move to Mission Bay's new stadium to cheer on the Viking football team in the second game of the season Fri., Sept. 4, with an early start time of 5 p.m.
This will be a good rivalry game for some of the younger cheerleaders, including at least three freshmen and two sophomores, to experience as La Jolla faces Bishop's in a non-league grudge match.
The Knights demolished LJHS 42-7 in last year's matchup on both schools' home field, Edwards Stadium. With Edwards under construction, the Vikings will play all 10 regular season games away, as well as any CIF contests. Mission Bay will serve as the closest thing to a home field for the Vikes this season, as they will play three of their games on the new Buccaneer surface.
La Jolla's football team (1-0) is coming off an uneven but dynamic win over Country Day, 52-42.
The cheer squad, which showed adaptability and a good spirit in the season opener, is captained by Diana Dominguez. Co-captains are Sean Nelson and Julia Munson. All three are returners under new cheer advisor Cindee Russell.
Seniors include Paola Espinal, Stephanie Miller, and Leticia Salgado. Juniors besides Dominguez are Maria Alvarez, Sally Chen, Natalie Valle, Amairani Cruz, and Sofia Pascoe. Sophomores include Munson and Halle Trim. Blue Schroeder, Sydney Marquez, and Hailey Ramos.
Others are Eva Chavez, Mariela Carrillo, Bibi Gutierrez, Daniela McGrath, Kayla Sabo, and Angelique Pacleb.
A bit of trivia is that Angelique is the only cheerleader this year who has a brother, Jesse, a junior, playing on the varsity football team. In this reporter's memory, this is the first time this has occurred recently. (Baseball coach Gary Frank, who keeps track of things pretty closely, may know otherwise!)
