La Jolla's baseball team won seven straight games before a 6-4 loss in 10 innings at home to Clairemont Mon., May 5.

Before that loss, Viking head coach Gary Frank had said, "If we win the next two (against Clairemont), we win the league."

After that loss, and another 6-0 loss to the Chieftains Tues., May 6, Frank said "mathematically" his squad could still win the league title--indicating the odds were a lot lower than before the pair of defeats.

The reason for the mathematical possibility is that, despite La Jolla's final game Thurs., May 8, Clairemont still has three more games the following week against San Diego High School.

That leaves open the possibility of Clairemont and SDHS deciding the Vikings' fate--without LJHS being powerless to do anything but watch the results.

In any case, the 2025 season has been a blessing for La Jolla High. Starting pitchers Travis Lancaster and Abel Delgadillo have turned in strong performances, along with other support on the pitching staff.

As Frank said, "The team has been doing great. We have been getting terrific pitching and defense, and gotten just enough offense to string a bunch of wins together."

Regarding the two starters' effectiveness, the long-time coach said, "They have done a strong job of commanding the strike zone and working ahead in the count."
