Matisse Pickett, a 108-pounder from La Jolla, won a 10-8 decision over Jessica Mexia of Mar Vista in the Queen of the Beach wrestling tournament at Mar Vista High Sat., Jan. 15.
The event brought together girl wrestlers on the first day of the long Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday weekend.
Pickett, who lost her first match of the day, resulting in her moving to the consolation bracket, took care of Mexia from the host school. Matisse was later eliminated from the tourney with a 14-4 major decision loss (so-called due to the margin of victory) to Elizabeth Kishi of Valley Center.
