La Jolla's volleyball team, returning to form after a poor showing in the Open Division playoffs the week before, defeated visiting Del Norte 3-2 Thurs., Nov. 1, in a seeding match-up to earn a more favorable pairing in the Southern California Regionals Tues., Nov. 6.
"I was really angry about our play last week," said sophomore libero Alex Dinofia, who helped key a comeback after the Vikings lost the opening game of the afternoon match in front of a modest crowd. "I was having a super competitive focus because of that. I didn't want us to play like that again."
Unlike the lethargic 3-0 loss at Scripps Ranch Oct. 27, Coach Kelly Drobeck's squad showed fire and spirit, especially by outside hitter Amaya McMillan, lefty setter/hitter Maya Gessner, and middle hitter Leyla Blackwell.
