Reporter to Carsten Fehlan: "Congratulations on being voted one of the (varsity football) team captains. That's a good boost before you've even started being the starting quarterback" (with the season opener a week away).

Fehlan: "Sweet. It's pretty sweet."

The four captains, voted by their teammates, include senior slot Gabe Solis, senior guard Kevin Zupkas, and sophomore middle linebacker Max Smith, in addition to Fehlan, a senior.

Head coach Tyler Roach said Jack Mitchell, a junior linebacker, had a "good camp" at Big Bear Friday, August 3, through Monday, August 6.

Mitchell: "I ate proportionately. Last year, I ate too much. (I didn't feel good.) This year I ate proportionately (and I felt better)."

"We played basketball, all sorts of stuff," said the 5'10", 168-pound student athlete.

Gabe Solis on the Big Bear team camp: "It was a lot of fun."

Diego Solis, a sophomore safety and backup quarterback, younger brother of Gabe, had been unaware of the scouting report in the local paper that included him and his brother.

"I went to the doctor (this morning, Wed., Aug. 8) and he told me about the article," said the lefty, who is featured in the report, based on comments by Roach: "Diego Solis will anchor the secondary on defense."

"He (the doctor) gave me the paper," Solis said. He indicated he was surprised but pretty happy with the write-up.
