Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) defeated JSerra to win the National Division championship in the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic Tues., Dec. 30.
Senior Zach White, a 6'6" San Diego State commit, starred for the Knights throughout the four-day tournament across the Christmas break.
In a one-on-one interview after Notre Dame won its semifinal game over national-power DeMatha Catholic from Maryland, White, with his mother Aminah nearby, answered some questions about his team's performance Mon., Dec. 29.
Q: Tell me about your team's play. How did you see it tonight?
ZW: It was great. We locked in defensively. We were playing hard. My teammates were playing great. I loved it. It's a great atmosphere. They really make me the person I am--make me want to play hard, have the effort.
Q: You (as a team) played well, but you minimized your mistakes. DeMatha was making some errors.
ZW: I just see it, I have to control the game, being a leader. I'm a four-year varsity guy. I've played around some great players and they trust me in that role. I have to prove to them that I'm good enough. They really give me an opportunity to play hard and try to control the pace of the game, to try my best. And we have other great players who do the same.
Q: You show strength inside, but also shooting from distance. Have you worked on that?
ZW: I try to balance it. I played URBO, the circuit, this year. There are bigger guys. Scoring inside might be tough, so lining up my shot (outside) might be easier.
