Continuing to exploit team strengths and limiting mistakes, La Jolla recorded an authoritative 28-14 non-league win over visiting Santa Fe Christian Fri., Sept. 6, on Staff Appreciation Night.

The Vikings (now 2-1) played disciplined ball to pull away from the well-respected Eagles after a 7-7 tie at halftime before a pleased Red Out student body section at Edwards Stadium.

Sophomore quarterback Jackson Stratton complemented the stout La Jolla defense, completing 16 of 23 passes for 170 yards, with a touchdown aerial to newcomer Makai Smith.

Besides rushing for two TD's, the second an impressive one in which he pushed a tenacious defender several yards into the end zone to secure the game late in the fourth quarter, junior Max Smith and company helped limit the damage by Eagles back Stephen Britton, who, though imposing, looked conquered by the game's conclusion.

In the second half, linebacker Dirk Germon's name seemingly was repeated on every other defensive play by public address announcer Bob Allen, himself a long-time Viking coach, athletic director, and student-athlete.

In preliminary unofficial statistics, the senior defender was credited with four tackles. But that seems far too low a total.

Stratton started off scoring with a pass to Makai Smith to open the second quarter. Smith, a sophomore, made a spectacular leaping catch on the far left side of the end zone to haul in the high throw with one hand. Santa Fe Christian tied the game on Britton's run midway through the period.
