LJ g VB: Leyla and Inger crank

By Ed Piper

Despite La Jolla's rough season in girls volleyball this fall, middle hitter-blocker Leyla Blackwell and defensive specialist Inger Shelton have stood out statistically.

Blackwell, a 6'2" sophomore, has 83 total blocks, by far the most in that category among Western League defenders. Alex Backlund has 23 blocks to rank fifth.

Shelton, a senior, leads Western League players in serving aces with 44.

Vikings Paige Kaufman and Dana Waldburger rank three-four in digs with 174 and 143, respectively.

Blackwell also has 140 kills, good for fourth in that statistic.

Shelton also has 322 assists to rank her second in that category.
