Collin Rugg, former record-setting quarterback at La Jolla High in 2013-2014, has left William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri, after two seasons to transfer to a school in the San Diego area.

"I transferred so I'm in San Diego!" texted the 6'3", 200-pound former passing phenom, in response to a request for comment on Tyler Roach's hiring as new Viking head football coach. Rugg played under Roach, who served as La Jolla's Offensive Coordinator from 2013-2015.

Rugg was listed as a redshirt freshman on the 2016 William Jewell football roster. The business major accepted a full-ride athletic scholarship in Spring 2015 to enroll in the college, northeast of Kansas City, Missouri, beginning the Fall semester in 2015.

"I'm just taking online courses now but I have applied to a bunch of schools for the fall," Rugg said via text in query to his activities.

Rugg was not spotted at any of La Jolla's football games this past fall, when Matt Morrison took over the head coaching duties after Jason Carter resigned in January 2016. Carter, who mentored Rugg along with Roach, took the Offensive Coordinator position at Mission Bay. There, he coached Trevor Scully, a former Viking, who transferred to play for the Buccaneers before the 2016 season.

As a senior, Rugg tossed 46 touchdowns and ran for another to set a new CIF San Diego Section record for a single season. He also threw for 570 yards in a single game. Collin's mother, Mary, served as the team mom and organizer during Collin's years on the varsity. His father, Scott, is a geologist. Collin came out of La Jolla High as an excellent student on the academic side.
