La Jolla's girls basketball team trailed 17-7 after one quarter and 26-15 after two at Lincoln Fri., Feb. 5. But separation really ballooned in the third quarter, as the Hornets outscored the Vikings 15-8 to take a 56-28 victory in the Western League.

La Jolla (2-6 in league, 6-12 overall) had a hard time scoring against a superior Lincoln (7-2, 12-10) team, with only senior center Satori Roberson (3 points) scoring more than two points in the opening period. Then guard Rebecca Saul took that honor in the second quarter with three points. In fact, no one for La Jolla could score that many points in either the third or fourth quarters.

For the Hornets, junior captain Jeriah Drake led all scorers with 17 points. Senior Raeshondra Dike had 13. Junior captain Tarazjanae Cooksey threw in 10.

Yet, in the fourth quarter, down by 20 points, the Viking bench was cheering and yelling for the players on the court. As has been said before, coach Darice Carnjaje's enthusiasm has spread to her players.

Despite having just learned which foot to go off for a layup, and after that how to dribble right-handed on a drive to the basket, Roberson has big plans in basketball: "I have two goals: one, culinary. I'm going to go to Grossmont College. Two, a pro basketball player.

"I've already talked to the coach at Grossmont," she said.

Asked about the players yelling and clapping despite trailing by a bunch, Roberson said matter-of-factly, "We wanted to support our teammates."
