Today, July 30, is Maiti Young's 17th birthday. So she gets featured today for La Jolla High Cheer.

"Captains (Maiti is one of three new ones on the varsity squad) wanted to work a lot more on stunting and team bonding," she said in an interview via Facebook on her birthday, which she is spending in Massachusetts with family.

"We're all really loving our new coach (Kayla Fox)," said Maiti, who will be a senior in the fall at LJHS. The first varsity football game the cheer squad will be pumping up the spirit at will be at Country Day Friday, August 29.

"The transition (to a new advisor) has been great. Our practices are organized and she is really positive and pays equal attention to everyone on our team, including JV," said Maiti. "We have already accomplished so much in a small amount of time, so I can't imagine how strong our team will be by the time school starts."

Individually, Maiti, along with her responsibilities as a captain, says she wants to work on her jumps and "accomplishing more in my stunt group."

Happy birthday, Maiti.
