Logan Bonnett, one of La Jolla's senior two-way leaders--center on offense, "Mike" linebacker on defense--took a breath between sprints in practice Monday afternoon, August 14, to find a reporter's recorder in his face.
Asked how he graded his team in the Vikings' scrimmage against a weak West Hills team Sat., Aug. 12, Bonnett had these comments:
Q: You guys had a lot of energy Saturday. You're one of the leaders here.
We did pretty well on both sides of the ball. We starting cleaning up some stuff, like mainly on defense, our safeties running dock and fits.
But we're looking pretty good. On offense, our line is pretty good. Receivers made plays, so our offense is pretty solid this year.
Q: How is it working this year, you (hiking) and the quarterbacks? You were in there with (starter) Jackson (Diehl), and Huddy (Smith)?
With Huddy, for one series. We're synching pretty well, but when Huddy comes in, I got to know to hike it a little lower 'cause he's a few inches shorter (5'10" or so) than Jackson (6'2" or so). So that's all I need to know.
Q: With Bishop's (Fri., Aug. 18 in the season opener), what are you thinking?
We need to get back against them for last year. I got kind of screwed up in that game. I came into that game thinking we were just going to obliterate them, and that didn't happen. We're not going to do that this year.
