La Jolla High football players were busy adjusting their newly-assigned pads Monday afternoon, July 31, as they prepared for their first Fall practice in said pads and helmets.
One player has an "air-conditioned" helmet--tubes circulate air within the head space--and someone was taking a look. The helmet also had the "cool" tinted visor that everybody since LaDainian "L.T." Tomlinson who thought they were "on the next level" has worn.
Coach Tyler Roach met in his office--combined with storage space along the western side of the football field--with players to introduce and go over plays that will presumably be installed in the offense and defense come Friday night, August 18, in the Vikings' season opener at Edwards Field against rival Bishop's.
That constituted the first 30 minutes of the two-hour block from 5 to 7 p.m. Meanwhile, punter/place kicker Evan Martin and his long snapper practiced punts from midfield toward the northern end zone.
Once the meeting broke up, players came out in their pads and helmets to do "indies"--drills within position groups, the first-team offense, and so forth.
