Some familiar faces in their first day of spring football after the close of the track season included Gabe Solis, Michael Wells, Greg Nelson II, Max Smith and others Tues., May 22.
Presumed starting quarterback Carsten Fehlan, filled out and looking much more comfortable after a year as a backup to the graduating Trevor Scully, threw passes to these receivers and others on routes along with left-handed Diego Solis, last season's freshman team quarterback.
Solis, Wells, and Nelson will provide a lot of the fleet speed the receiving corps will exhibit beginning with La Jolla High's opener August 17 at Central High in distant El Centro.
Second-year head coach Tyler Roach urged his charges repeatedly to set up quickly and to rotate spots to get reps as he and his assistant coaches instructed, demonstrated, corrected, and drilled the 40 or 50 players in the thrice-weekly, 3:45-5:45 workout in its second of four weeks.
Other returners the first four days of the spring ritual last week and this week have included Noah Marquez (running back), Finn Rice (defensive back/wide receiver), Phillip Pacleb, Kevin Zupkas (line).
