The Viking girls, undefeated so far this season, went 1-2-3-5-6 in placement to swamp Patrick Henry 17-46 (cross country scores go in reverse) and set up the two final meets of this shortened COVID season on Thurs., March 13 over the 3.11-mile course at Morley Field.

Freshman Kyra Fisk, extending her fantastic streak to start her high school career, topped the field by over a minute and a half and was followed by teammate and fellow freshman Daphne Mayer, who finished in second place.

Fisk's outstanding time was 20:10.42 to remain undefeated in high school competition, while Mayer was clocked in 21:44.28.

Moving up to third this time was another La Jolla freshman, Abigail Plezia, who has had a good season as well in this COVID-delayed season. Plezia's time, ahead of the Patriots' first finisher, was 22:13.14.
Samantha Gantney, a junior, led Henry's five scoring runners in fourth place with 22:23.44.

The surprising Viking girl quintet was completed by junior Sasha Backus in fifth place with a time of 22:34.30, and senior Hannah Nightingale in sixth with 22:36.09.

Patrick Henry's runners just could not offer Coach Mendy Benham's talented team much opposition in the face of the onslaught of the three top freshmen Viking runners, then two underclassmen completing the five-person placement among the first six runners.

ironic T-shirt: "I hate running."
