By Ed Piper

La Jolla's Joshua Jasso placed third at 197 pounds at the City Conference Championships, while teammates Faress Zwain and Isaiah Torres took fourth in their respective weight classes Sat., Feb. 2, in the prestigious event held at Cathedral Catholic High School.

Jasso, who won the Eastern League title at his weight a week ago, pinned Raymond Mendoza of St. Augustine in 3:40 to earn a place in the third-place final later in the day. In his first match, the hard-working junior pinned Yuto Okinubo of Scripps Ranch in 1:44 of the first round. That was a quarterfinal bout.

Torres, wrestling at 222 pounds, pinned Felipe Leon of Crawford in 3:20 in a consolation semifinal to reach the third place final, where he had to bow out due to an injury.

In a prior match in the quarterfinals on Cathedral's bright red mats, the senior clad in the black singlet of the Vikings defeated Randy Kenolio of Point Loma 4-2.
